Waste Assessment & Characterisation

Waste assessments are conducted to assess materials (discard, overburden, ore etc) for disposal / storage purposes in terms of the GNR 635 of August 2013 (National Norms and Standards for the Assessment of Waste for Landfill Disposal) and to determine the mineralogy and the potential of the materials to generate acid mine drainage.

Waste characterisations are undertaken to determine the geochemical characteristics of the various geological materials that will be exposed, disturbed and/or deposited through mining or other activities as it is imperative that potential contaminant sources are well understood.

Waste assessment & characterisation services include:

• waste classification,
• static and kinetic leach testing,
• Acid-base accounting, etc
